A Dreamcatcher for Old Chief Joseph

At the foot of Wallowa Lake is the grave of Old Chief Joseph, chief of the Nez Perce tribe in the Wallowas of NE Oregon.   Born about 1789, he died in 1872. ( His son, the younger Chief Joseph, led his people during the period of the influx of white settlers and broken treaties, eventually leading to conflicts that forced Joseph to lead 800 of his people toward Canada.  However, American soldiers trapped them and forced them to surrender just 50 miles from the Canadian border.  "From where the sun now stands, I will fight no more forever.")  The old chief's headstone is decorated with items left by visitors---plastic toys, coins, buttons, bottle caps, a Portland Timbers muffler tied in a shrub, and this beautiful handmade dreamcatcher.

My choice for Week #42 of Kent Weakley's Project 52 and Sweet Shot Tuesday.
