Horses of the Nez Perce

Each year, Native American men representing the Wallowa Band Nez Perce Descendants ride horseback 70 miles from the Umatilla Indian Reservation near Pendleton, Oregon over the Blue Mountains to the site of the TamKaLiks Friendship Celebration on tribal lands outside of Wallowa, Oregon.    Several of the horses, some Paints and some Appaloosas, are left to pasture afterwards near the pow-wow grounds.
