A Simple Pleasure in Polyester

Dayle has her mother-in-law's silverplated flatware for her Simple Pleasure this week. It's in a glass jar, in view and easily accessible when needed.   My Simple Pleasure is in my bedroom.

Remember those garish polyester fabrics?  Textured prints such as jacquards and the like?  Years ago, my mother used to sew "throws" out of polyester squares with washable fleece backing.  The idea was that these quilt-sized blankets could go anywhere... on the floor, on the lawn, out in the woods, college dorm rooms...and then just be thrown into the washer and dryer.   I've had my bright colored one for longer than I've been married....that means it's older than 33 years.  The fleece Mom chose for the backing turned out to be less-than-wonderful for easy care, but that hasn't affected its use over the years.  Children and adults have used it for naps.  I draped it  over the sharp-edged coffee table in the family room when my little great-niece was just learning to walk.  And every night my husband lays it out on my side of our king-sized bed because I'm always cold. (I'll have to admit that only on the hottest July/August nights does the throw stay on the chest instead of the bed!)

oh my gosh. this brought back memories - my mother sewed something similar for a quilt covering, and even put together a couch and loveseat cover too. :)

Indeed I do remember those fabrics, and you've done something wonderful with it.

The colors are fabulous! I'm not sure I thought I would ever say that about the colors I grew up with, but there I go...

We have a remnant box just full of similar ones. I love your simple pleasure. I DOES bring back memories.

I'm sure that quilt holds in the heat very well...as well as many memories.

The quilt is lovely and has obviously served you well in many ways, plus the memories are the true keepsake. Best wishes, Tammy

All changed around here.
Like what you've done with the place :-)

What a great memory making item.
It looks impeccably clean, after so much usage.
The throw 'stays on the chest' had me puzzled for a second :-)
I gather a 'throw' is not what I think it is.

This is so wonderfully colorful!
I am especially in awe because quilting is something I have never attempted to do.
