I'm ashamed to say that I don't remember where I learned the Orton technique, but I'm relatively certain that I followed a link on Lisa Gordon's blog or her Creative Exchange blog (now I can't find it in the archives). So, with thanks to the photographer who provided this: ORTON Duplicate image
Screen blending mode 100%
Duplicate layer
Filter - Blur - Gaussian (25 or lower)
Multiply Blending Mode
Merge/Flatten layers
If image is too dark, I often do a second layer duplication of the Screen mode
(In my attempts to find the source of this "recipe," I Googled "Orton Effect." I found out who "invented" the effect, and I found this video from the PS Elements magazine. I must say that the video is more complicated than the recipe!)

Orton sure worked for this image, that's for sure. Beautiful. Of course, you had a lovely SOOC composition to begin with. Thanks so much for sharing, kareninkenai (visiting from PAF)
I've not heard of this one before Evelyn; has a dreamy quality about it
wow, that's beautiful Evelyn!
The Orton Effect is so dreamy and romantic - a lovely choice for this photo Evelyn. Just gorgeous. Thank you for sharing it with Photo Art Friday. I always look forward to seeing your work!
This is just beautiful. One look and it brought me right back to poppy fields in Italy. And isn't that a sign of true art..the ability to transport. Lovely.

Love the Orton effect ... great greeting card!
It does give an ethereal quality to the poppy. I think my "go-to technique" would be PW's "Lovely & Ethereal" action. I love that you can adjust each layer to taste. I use that one a lot!
Such a good way to deal with the fierce red. I like the way you have kept the bud fairly sharp still, in contrast to the petals in mid-focus.
I really like Orton, too... such a rich color, here. =)
Lovely! So soft and dreamy looking!
Beautiful and Dreamy. - I agree with Karen that your SOOC shot was wonderful to begin with and with the addition of the Orton effect it just added a wonderful softness to the photo.
Evelyn,
This is gorgeous! It is a beautiful color, and I love the Orton Effect on it.
Sending you wishes for a wonderful weekend!
lisa.
This is lovely, Evelyn!
It feels very dreamy. I'll have to try that out :)
Gorgeous -- both photos, Evelyn.
I use Picnik for my Orton effect. One button does it all. :)
Beautiful image and rendering Evelyn. Looks like it's on to "learning a new technique" for me!
Great job! I love the final product!
This is beautiful Evelyn, I cant wait to try this effect, thanks s much for sharing the recipe.
Blessings

A beautiful effect. I love these particular editing techniques and had no idea it had a name. Lovely work.
What a cool effect, especially with those vibrant colours, Evelyn! I really have to think what my go-to is... at the moment I must admit I don't do much editing (which I definitely miss!!!). Have a wonderful Sunday!
oh that's very nice. you can get that all in one swoop with Picnik. Orton is one of the "effects". I love what you did with the poppy. and your header image is fabulous. happy Sunday to you Evelyn.
Such a wonderful softness and dreamy effect.
