Cows and calves....elk and cattle
Lower Valley, where I grew up, is unbelievably lush this time of year with pastures and hayfields well-irrigated by the Wallowa River, creeks, and irrigation ditches. In recent years, elk have moved into the area that's bisected by Oregon Highway 82. The cows evidently calve in one pasture where a grove of trees flourishes. Landowners in the area also pasture cattle in the same area, and the two species seem to have worked out a comfortable relationship. Mothers and babies of both species were mingling today---a relatively unusual occurrence. I'm linking up with Nancy's Rural Thursday.

Green and beautiful!
How interesting to see this! It always amazes me how well nature seems to work together, without us interfering.
Very cool photos Evelyn we have cattle and it is quite normal to see the deer mingling about them. They also love to share the block of cattle salt. I love your photos. B
It must be so fun to watch them.
The header photo is stunning ... and it looks like the elk have taken over the cow pasture! :)
So cool. Good work noticing and enjoying this. Thanks for sharing!
It's surprising to me to see these two species together. Nice captures.
Hmmm, so it's kind of unusual... I'm interested in keeping an eye on that odd development - Keep us posted!
Oh, I like that. They are sharing. We could take a lesson from them.
Fine pic of animals in peace!
Always safety in numbers!
Yes, we all can get along! Great shots, Evelyn.
Enjoyed♫
Wow, I did not know the cattle and the elk would "hang out" together! I really enjoyed your pictures! :)
Oh lucky you to spot these Elk and Cows sharing the field with each other. Your photo's are really nice, thanks for sharing.
