A Sweet Wild Rose
A Sunday afternoon drive to the top of a 6000' mountain that overlooks the Grande Ronde Valley in NE Oregon took my husband and me through beautiful forests to a high plateau accented with volcanic formations. Wildflowers in the mountains are in their prime right now; we've had some rain and cool temperatures since summer supposedly started. This is a wild rose--a variety I've never seen before. The petals have points rather than rounded edges, while the foliage has a rosy underside to the green leaves. I'm linking up with Sweet Shot Tuesday. (Some comments led me to do a little research on this rose, and I found out that this variety is probably a Red-Leaf Rose {rosa glauca}. Someone must have brought it to Mt. Emily in NE Oregon, where it now grows wild in a certain area.)

we call those beach roses because the bushes they grow on are most prevalent at/along the beach

I have this rose (Rosa glauca) in my garden and I LOVE it. I just wish it bloomed longer. I didn't realize it was a wild rose in Oregon!
