Definitely Rural

It's called Jackpot Roping....two-person teams "heading" and "heeling" a horned steer in the shortest time possible.  The ropers arrive at the arena in pickups pulling horse trailers.  They each put in a certain amount of money, with winners determined at the end of the particular "round" of Sundays.  There are no set teams, but pairings are often random and then by time as the day moves on.  Linking up with Nancy's Rural Thursday.

Husband and wife team -- they hauled their horses 65 miles to the roping event

Evelyn, these are terrific photos! Not being a western girl, I really appreciate the closeups so I can "see" what's happening :)

Oh wow! Some great shots. The top one caught my attention. The steer is so small compared to the horses.

Very nice rural images. Perfect for Rural Thursday. Enjoyed the close-ups of the boot and horses eyes, especially. :)

Love the closeup of the horse! :)
There are a LOT of jackpot ropings around here too. Our neighbors are ropers and the wife is actually the better of the two, she is the header. :)

And here I am thinking I'm Miss Big Fancy Pants because I can ride at a walk. And that's even when the saddle is on the horse!

They make it look so easy, but I bet it is really a lot of work.

These are great action shots! I love to see that safety is important for the people and animals. That would be quite a task, partnering with a stranger.
