Fire in the Sky

Wildfires are burning in the West....Washington, Idaho, Oregon fires are producing smoke, haze, and now ash.  Hopefully, the temperatures stay lower and the winds are calmer so firefighters can gain the upper hand.   In the mountains southeast of my home, the area is so steep that only helicopters doing water drops can be used.  During the day, the haze and fine ash are obvious...and the sun becomes a strange color.  (For some reason, I can't record the true orange that I see---with my camera or my phone.)

Orange ring around the sun from my front porch at 4 p.m.

Sun at 5 p.m. over the Grande Ronde Valley
6:30 p.m....sun dropping behind the Blue Mountains west of La Grande, Oregon

oh, that is so sad. we were told while out west recently that most of our views were so cloudy or foggy due to all recent fires. so so sad. need rain so badly. (:

Gosh, hope you are safe from those fires! Neat photos, especially the vertical shot. Loving the pale peach color in these. In the first shot I also see a yellow ring in addition to orange.

Such an ominous, but beautiful appearance.

We've had the same Orange sun here this week, smoke and ash fallout as well. Not so good for my Asthma. I tried taking photos too but couldn't capture the intense orange color either. I thought it was just my Point and Shoot but apparently the color just doesn't show well for some reason.
