I like what the "Travel Oregon" website says about Mt. Hood, the 11,200+ foot mountain in my photo. "Mt. Hood is the highest point in Oregon, not so much a mountain as an active volcano and the crown jewel of the Columbia Gorge." It's beautiful any time of year, but in the winter, it can become a dangerous beauty. Climbers take on the mountain throughout the year -- about 1000 climbers a year. Since records have been kept, 130 climbers have died. Early this morning, a climber was rescued from the 10,000+ elevation after being blinded by a whiteout and losing his way. He actually posted his situation and GPS coordinates on Facebook!
I took this photo from the back seat of our car (MIL was in the front with DH) as we left Portland Sunday afternoon on the Banfield Freeway east of the city. It's tricky finding a "window" for the mountain when there aren't buildings and freeway light poles in the way.

Wow, what a beautiful picture!! I agree with TWG, perfect light!! :)
Evelyn, wow, you got a perfect, unobstructed view! I'm definitely putting Mt. Hood on my list of things to see on my next trip to Portland. I've seen it the two times I went, but it was from the plane. :/ This is really spectacular and "Crown Jewel" is an apt description.
Stunning beauty!
Lovely view of Mt. Hood.
Fantastic capture, Evelyn. No thick cloud cover, no clouds at all.. wow!
