How About Some Grunge?

I subscribe to Elements magazine, which is rather expensive but is loaded with all kinds of how-to's, techniques, and recipes for PhotoShop Elements.  The tutorials are available to subscribers online, as well.   Some are just beyond my interest---I tend to be simple-minded about techniques.  That means I want simple stuff.  One of the features in the current issue of the mag is called "Easy Grunge," and was written by mixed-media artist Liz Ness.  The "recipe" is simple to follow, so I played with some photos I took last week on one of the weekly drives with my mother. Although Liz describes this look as having "gritty, urban appeal,"  there's nothing "urban" about my images.  The look can also create a "nostalgic, antique look," according to Liz.

These are fabulous! I love the one of the house up close. Poor thing looks as if it's seen better days but makes for great photograhic shots like yours.

Love these photos and the grunge effect. I use this effect (but on a simple editing program) a lot (maybe too much!) because it can outline and really show off the lines in an object. I really like it with the fence...thought I was looking at a 1930's shot. Thanks for sharing!!

Not much "gritty, urban" around here (thank goodness!), I like "nostalgic, antique" much better! The old house really lends itself well to this effect! :)

Perfect processing for these scenes.

Boy, there's so many possibilities with this recipe. The first three lend itself well to it, but I must say that the original image of the old house is just perfect the way it is. It's fun to play, though!
