Joining
Madge's Rurality Blog Hop today. I came upon this scene last week just 1/4 mile from my mother's house--the farm where I grew up. The neighbors were moving a small bunch of cows and their very new calves. Four adults on foot (they were at an intersection in the country road) and one man on horseback. Newborn calves really aren't too much "with it" and they certainly don't have a sense about moving in one direction. Whatever direction they go, their mothers go, and it's often the opposite direction they're supposed to go. It was slow-moving chaos at the intersection.

Note: these two cows are facing the "wrong" direction! There's a calf in front of the horse. |
|
Finally, the calves are moving in the right direction, and the cows follow. |

It's the Marlboro Man! I like his mustache.
Great shots.
Looks like cold, snowy work.
I guess all 'kids' need some guidance, to go in the right direction.
Such cold wet weather. Very nice photos showing a little of how hard ranch life is.
Wonderful photo of the rancher but I am sure that is very hard work....Mamas will follow their babies,uh?

Mighty cold weather for those babies, and it looks like quite a job getting them headed in the right direction.
the animals in the cold sure have it tough. But so do their keepers. I think the dairy-men have it the toughest some how. Lovely photos Evelyn, sharing another side of life
Great shots! I know this is still going on in lots of places, but it feels like stepping into the past to see these pictures. They're really wonderful! (Looks very cold and miserable, though.)
That cowboy shot is great, so quinessential (sp?) west
Love that man in that hat! What wonderful photos!
Great capture of this iconic ranch scene! Love your blog header, too! xx
Great shots Evelyn! The snow is just icing on the cake too!! :)
A real working cowboy! Great photos.
Very nice captures! Ranching in the snow has got to be a brutal business!
awesome snaps
what an excellent shot of a working cowboy - in the snow yet. I've experienced this sort of chaos for myself, and yes, young calves have no sense of direction and momma and calf will not be separated. I really like that first shot. happy day to you Evelyn.
Oh, I love these shots, Evelyn!! The are award winning! You should print and frame them... really. Thank you for joining in 'Rurality Blog Hop #5' Hope to see you next Wednesday for #6...
There's a lesson in there somewhere -- but it's too early for me to figure it out! Love new calves -- so cute!
Love these shots in the snow!
Awwwwww, look at that sweet little one.
I'll bet this is no easy task, especially in that weather.
Great shots, those could be used for post cards or... Beautiful shots
