The beginning of warm weather usually starts with a hard freeze, and last night was no exception. I don't know what the temperature was here, but my tulips look really sad this morning. Just a few miles north, it was down to 12 degrees. To the south, green fields became frosty under the sprinkler lines in the Grande Ronde Valley. (One of my grown nieces called me on her way to work, knowing I would want to photograph the beautiful contrasts just four miles away.)

Gorgeous photos, but why were the sprinklers on?
So interesting. That last image is amazing!
Wow, what beautiful images! The ice formations are super cool. Though I know you are ready for warmer temps.
I am sure you could do without the cold temps, Evelyn, but it sure made for some really beautiful photographs!
I've never actually seen it when they turned on the sprinklers to protect the plants during the night - thanks for showing us. It is gorgeous up here too - supposed to go up to 74 on the weekened - which is just about perfect.
You really captured a beautiful moment. Although, I am sure you are tired of the cold temps.
I asked an irrigation contractor why they run the sprinklers when it is below freezing. The answer (kind of) surprised me, like everything else regulated by the government, if they do not use all of the water allocated to them, they will not get the same allocation next year.
Amazing. The last image is my favorite. I hope it's your last hard freeze!
brrrrr
I remember a similar photo of yours last year I think -- very cool (pun intended.)
Beautiful shots! I'm glad your niece called you! :)
Amazing sight!
Thats amazing that the water stopped in mid air and turned to ice
Wow! These are just plain cool shots. Especially that last one.
Give your niece a thumbs up for calling you and give yourself one for going and taking these fabulous photos.
