I thought I was photographing a Rufous hummingbird, but maybe it's an Allen's....the descriptions in my bird book are close. As for the female, I don't know if she's a Rufous or an Allen's, but she's at the feeder, along with other females who are making their first appearances. I think it means their eggs have hatched and they can leave the nest.

Wow - simply amazing photos!!!!!!
Very nice, Evelyn! Wonderful, crisp photos. At the hummingbird seminar we attended we were told that the difference in rufous and Allen's are simply a notch in the back tail feathers. So unless you capture one and fan the tail out, it's impossible to tell. Therefore, photos are generally referred to as "Rufous/Allen".
very cute.
How gorgeous they are!
What great shots of the little beauties! :)
Beautiful captures.
Lovely photos! Beautiful details of these sweet little birds. I had no idea the two species were so alike. I always learn something new from your beautiful blog! xx

How sweet. These are awesome shots. I would love to photograph a hummingbird. I'm thinking I need a feeder to attract them.
Wow, you are so lucky to have these stunning birds.
What wonderful photos, Evelyn! Those little birds are so cute. I'm surprised they slowed down enough for you to photograph them.
