REDISCOVERING MYSELF THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY

Still Life in a Frugal Way

I've begun an 8-week workshop that highlights still life photography -- with Cheryl McCain.  For my still life, I've also added a texture from Pixel Dust Photo Art because I don't have very good backgrounds right now. The texture makes the items look as if they have been placed on a beautiful piece of fabric.  (The additional image at the bottom is a vertical still life, also texturized and vignetted.)  I used a floor lamp and table lamp for light here and set my camera white balance on tungsten; I still had to adjust the color in Picasa. Today, I received my soft box tent set-up, with two lights.  By next week, I hope to have had some practice.

Evelyn, I'd be PROUD to have taken as nice of photos as you have this week! Nothing wrong with using textures on Still Life! I'll be doing that as well. Love LOVE both your images, great composition, color and texture!

These are great! That first edit does look like you have placed the items on a piece of cloth. Where did you get your soft box from? I've been thinking about getting one. Thanks!

There are not enough superlatives to describe these, Evelyn. You have done an amazing job from composition through edit, on these. Really, really beautiful.

You will find so many uses for your light box, especially when the weather is less than desirable.

Both are stunning, but I absolutely love the second one. I'm another person from class interested in what soft box tent you purchased.
