Ahoy! Dog on Board!

I just had to share this photo taken by my future daughter-in-law today.  She and my son were on a whale-watching tour off the Oregon coast.   This dog was really enjoying the ride!  (No whales were sighted, but several "spouts."  My son calls them "mythical creatures" because he's never seen one.)

As we pulled into the Safeway parking lot, I spied the dog in the back of a pickup on the far side. (I'm always on the lookout for "dogs on board.")  "Over there!" I told my husband; he kindly complied by driving around until he could pull the car into the adjoining row of vehicles.  The dog's owner had backed into his parking place, maybe because he had a spare gas tank with nozzle in the back.  Whatever the reason, the dog was in my line of sight.  I chirped at him and he promptly lay down!  Shy dog.  Almost immediately, he stood up again and I aimed my telephoto lens in his direction.   Result:  pretty Border Collie portrait and another image of just how he felt about my intrusion into his world!

 I know the owner's name is Gene, but I don't know the name of this pretty Blue Merle Australian Shepherd who was waiting while his master was in the bank.

I'm starting a new post theme that I'm calling "Dog on Board."  I imagine there will be several farm dogs on flat bed pickups, but the dog in this particular post was in a Wal Mart parking lot, unhappy at being left next to a yapping dog closed up in a car and probably wondering why he had been left out in the snow.  Oh this face! (Is this an Airedale?)

I've been trying to capture images of dogs in pickups....a very common sight in my rural area.  Today, I saw a pair of dogs I thought I recognized.  I had photographed them last summer, and today they were in the back of a pickup that was parked on a side street, waiting for their master. I know "Zipper," the Border Collie mix but don't can't remember the name of his sidekick.  (This is my first post for my new theme: Dog on Board)
