It's called Jackpot Roping....two-person teams "heading" and "heeling" a horned steer in the shortest time possible. The ropers arrive at the arena in pickups pulling horse trailers. They each put in a certain amount of money, with winners determined at the end of the particular "round" of Sundays. There are no set teams, but pairings are often random and then by time as the day moves on. Linking up with Nancy's
Rural Thursday.

Great captures of the details and a wonderful action shot!
Evelyn, these are terrific photos! Not being a western girl, I really appreciate the closeups so I can "see" what's happening :)
Great shots of the action. I like the detail shots too!
The top photo is a true piece of art.
I love that first picture - it's fantastic!
Great shots. I feel sorry for the ones getting roped.
Fantastic photos ~ Wow! What an event ~ (A Creative Harbor)
fabulous ... excellent photos and a really good post .. yee-haw!
great photos...love the upclose shot of the horse's face/eyes...
Oh wow! Some great shots. The top one caught my attention. The steer is so small compared to the horses.

Fabulous shots. I can feel the dust, and smell the horses! I love a rodeo. Joining you from Rural thurs.
Very nice rural images. Perfect for Rural Thursday. Enjoyed the close-ups of the boot and horses eyes, especially. :)
Love the closeup of the horse! :)
There are a LOT of jackpot ropings around here too. Our neighbors are ropers and the wife is actually the better of the two, she is the header. :)
And here I am thinking I'm Miss Big Fancy Pants because I can ride at a walk. And that's even when the saddle is on the horse!
They make it look so easy, but I bet it is really a lot of work.
I think it's cool that you know so much about the rodeo Ev. These are great shots. :)
Hey Evelyn, Just stopping by to let you know that I chose your beautiful orange poppy photo as this weeks Orange You Glad It's Friday featured guest photo. Congrats, and thanks again for participating. Hope to see you back again!

These are great action shots! I love to see that safety is important for the people and animals. That would be quite a task, partnering with a stranger.
