This is my first post in about 10 days....we took a week-long trip (1350 miles) to south-central Oregon and the absolutely fabulous Crater Lake. I just haven't been in the blogging mood since getting back home, and I've been wading through the 650 photos I took. Tonight, I selected about 60 of them to put together two photobooks---one for me and one for the couple who served as our tour guides for two days. (They also happen to be the parents of our son's fiancee!) So, for Nancy's
Rural Thursday, I've chosen images that aren't from Crater Lake. I took them in the area where we spent our first night, in an old lodge in the Rogue-Siskiyou National Forest. (Oregon is full of of national forests.) This site is called the Rogue Gorge or Rogue Chasm, where the Rogue River rushes through a narrow gorge carved in basalt lava. The gorge begins with falls at the top.
41,000 gallons of water a minute pour through this gorge, 500 feet long and 25 feet at the narrowest point. It's 45 feet to the water. A printed notice on two trees informed visitors of a 21-year-old who fell into the rushing water above the falls on May 3 when the water was much higher. His body has not been found.

Beautiful images! Your first one really captures the rushing water - I can just imagine how dangerous it might be.

Once you get out of blogging for a few days (or 10) it's hard to get back into the swing. Oregon definitely has some amazing waterfalls, captured so well by you. Glad y'all had a good time. I'm sure your tour guides will appreciate the book!

Gorgeous! I just love Oregon! My mother-in-law lives in Grants Pass near the Rogue River. I just adore it!

Stunning scenery. I believe I've been here before and I try to avoid looking over to many areas with rushing water like that or atleast not getting to close to the edge.
