The Flicker

Red-shafted Flickers are common here, and I ordered two "special" suet feeders which have extensions for the big bird's tail.  This winter, three Flickers have been regular visitors; they are often accompanied by a Downy Woodpecker.  The problem with any winter bird-feeding are the "undesirables" such as starlings.  They prefer suet and can devour a suet block fairly quickly.   The little birds such as black-eyed Juncoes, chickadees, house finches and pine siskins have two seed feeders close to the suet.
