Above the Valley

Life in a valley means I must go "up" to get a good landscape view.  It's often frustrating, but it's necessary.  There are areas I return to on a regular basis:  Cemetery Road to the southeast, Fish Trap and Cricket Flat to the northeast, Palmer Junction to the north...whichever one I choose, it's more than two miles of driving.  As a matter of fact, Cemetery Road is the only location within two miles.  The road runs through fenced farmland, and I love wire fences.  This particular fence and gate have been in the viewfinder of my camera many times, whatever the season. It's a great place to see the wonderful cloud displays we take for granted in this part of the state.

Wire Gate

I love gates of all types, and because I live in a rural area, I see many gates that open into farm fields.  Often, the gates are made of wire. Sometimes, they have wooden posts as stabilizers, but some don't need them.   Such is the situation with this gate.  It's a combination of woven wire and barbed wire, and when opened, it's just tossed to one side.  In this case, the gate was opened to allow farm equipment into a field for harvest.

P52 Sweet Shot Tuesday #30

Some weeks, it's difficult to choose the photo I want to include in Kent Weakley's P52 Sweet Shot Tuesday; the one I choose each week is going to be published in my P52 photo book at the end of the year.  My husband recommended this image when I asked his opinion.  I took the photo on a Sunday evening drive across a nearby area called "Cricket Flat."  This time of year, it can be difficult to find a photo subject in that dry area.  I'm always attracted to gates of every kind, and this is one I chose.

P52 Sweet Shot Tuesday #4

Now that we don't have snow all winter, the landscape is definitely a monochromatic "blah" this time of year.  No snow, no green....just lots of shades of brown!   That means that I look for something different to photograph.  I found it at the gate of a century-old farm/ranch in the countryside a few miles from the town where I live.  Linking up with Kent Weakley's P52 Sweet Shot Tuesday.
