Thursday's Simple Pleasures...a variety of the same

I don't even like tomatoes, except once in awhile in a salad---I generally leave them on the plate---or in a BLT. But my husband loves them, and for two years, we've actually grown tomatoes from starts our brother-in-law planted in his greenhouse.  (He doesn't eat tomatoes, either!)   We had 4 different plants, each a different variety, in pots against the south side of the house and fenced off against the 'town' deer.  Spring was late, and so were the tomatoes, but once they started to grow, I enjoyed seeing the changes and seeing that first little green globe.

All this week, the night-time temperatures have been in the 20's.  The tomato 'cage' is covered with a sheet each night, but the plants won't last much longer.  Every other day, my husband goes out and gathers as many ripe ones as he can.  Today, needing any kind of 'simple pleasure' possible, I photographed the latest harvest and played with photographic effects.  These are my "Simple Pleasures" for Dayle's great blog.

Oh, my gosh, Evelyn! I'm a garden-grown-fresh-tomato nut, if that makes any sense. In the summer months, I can't get enough. I eat them alone or with anything and on everything. Your photos are so interesting. What a delightful Simple Pleasures post. So glad you linked up!

this was our first year growing tomatoes. Didn't like the big ones but the little grape ones were good. It was amazing to watch how quickly and easily they grow too. I like the photos you did.

I LOVE tomatoes, and I have been more like you husband and going out each day or so to gather the last of our "goodies". For me, it is a sad time to see them go until next year.

As a matter of fact, I will be having one today with my lunch. :) Thanks for sharing.

Hope your having a blessed day.
Hugs,
Cindy

I love home grown tomatoes. I wish we could grow them successfully but we can't, not enough sun on our garden. Great photos!

Ever since I've moved to Georgia I've had no luck growing tomatoes. Yours are absolutely fabulous - and I can't believe they're still producing this far into October! That must mean they are loved and cared for. Love the special effects!
