Friday's Random Five

Joining with Nancy's Random 5 Friday....

1. It has been a difficult week since my 93-year-old mother fell Monday night and broke both bones in her left leg.  She has been hospitalized  20 miles from her home, but is doing well.

2.  Foster care will be necessary for Mother's 8 to 12-week recovery period, when she cannot put any weight on the broken leg. (She is learning to navigate a wheelchair.)   None of her 5 children has a home that is accessible to such a handicap; a small foster care home in my town is the choice, because there are daughters, granddaughters and great-granddaughters who will be available to visit "Grandma Annie."  My task was to visit the facility and make a recommendation today; I had to contact all four of my siblings and tell them I couldn't make the decision alone.  It was too difficult to imagine our mother in such a home.  After all, she has lived in her home for 52 years, 32 years as a widow.  One brother came to my aid.

3. I bought my first bunch of flowers since last spring....just for photography purposes.  So it begins.

4. Because I've been doing a decent job of balancing photography and crafting for two blogs, I've decided to do some reading, for a change.  "The Bronze Horseman" is calling me.

5. I cut all the plant foliage but the coneflowers and black-eyed Susans (DH says they still have some good color--but I say they are not for long!) and am ready to divide some peonies and plant poppy seeds.  I even ordered some helenium roots after seeing some in a garden in town; a white clematis plant is also on its way to my address.

Definitely will have your mom in my thoughts as she and you navigate these changes.

Regarding the fountain in your garden, have you considered a solar variety? I've seen a few online.

Thank you for sharing at R5F this week Evelyn. xo

I am so sorry to hear about your mom, Evelyn, and I am so glad that some arrangements were able to be made for her. I know how difficult this can be.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

So sorry about your mom! God bless the brother who offered to help you. As an only child I know how hard it is to make those kind of decisions by yourself.

I can sympathize with you about caring for your mother. Mine is 95 and is now in a nursing home since she is not able to walk. She has a power chair and you have to watch out for her when she's in high speed.

I should cut my cone flowers and brown eyes down too but hate to do it. Instead I've been taking pictures of dead flowers. That's what happens when you've taken a picture of everything else around your house.

Oh dear, growing old is not for sissies, as my aunt used to say. Hope your mother recovers. I'm not at the buying flowers stage yet, although Chloe bought me a bunch of chrysanthemums as a welcome back home prezzie and I must say they look a lot plumper and richer than my garden flowers. :)

Oh Nancy I am so sorry to hear that your mom fell and broke her leg. - I will say prayers for her healing and recovery.
So thankful you had a brother that was willing to help you out with the decision to put her in a Foster Home. I pray that stay will go quickly and be a blessing to you all.
I need to clear out my flower beds soon. It's suppose to cool down next week so perhaps by the end of the month I'll have everything done as I have bulbs coming that I will need to plant. - Your white clematis sounds pretty.

That interim foster care home sounds like a great option in a situation like yours-poor Mom and I wish her a speedy recovery. This photo is very lovely-I like your processing. You've put a gardening for next year bug in my ear-

I'm so sorry to hear about your mother's situation. My mom is 88 and we've been in the ER more than once, worried sick about her. I hope this foster care works out well. Blessings to you and your family during this time.

It's tough to make those decisions for an aging/ailing parent. I hope she gets settled easily.
