I long ago lost count of the times I've photographed these aspens, which grow on private property 15 miles north. One family owned the land for several decades, a family with four children who all grew into wonderful, talented, successful adults. Mom and Dad moved "to town" two years ago to be closer to medical care. I don't know who bought the land, but I hope they let this grove of aspens continue to flourish in a corner of their property. I will continue to call them the "Insko Aspens."

Week #39 - P52
This is really a photo of one of my favorite subjects--a large stand of quaking aspen trees about 15 miles north of my house. I photograph these aspens in every season (I have to stand up in the back of our pickup to avoid the top wire of the fence)...and I never tire of the images. This photo was edited in one of my many editing programs, and this watercolor edit is a favorite.

More Trees
In an earlier post here, I featured my favorite trees, the aspens in snow. Less than a week later, there was more than double the amount of snow, and this time the trees' bare branches had collected the snow.

I Have a Thing for Trees
A few years ago, I began photographing this substantial stand of quaking aspens on land 15 miles from my town. Over the years, I've photographed the trees in every season, and a handful of my photos are printed for frames and on canvas for my own relatives and the relatives of the trees. (See Aspens) Winter might be my favorite season for the photographs because of the blue cast the snow takes from mountains in the background.

Trees in the Fall
I have three tree sites that I photograph every season: a single tree in a farm field about 10 miles south of my home; two large trees on a gravel road a few miles out in the country, the site of an old homestead; and a stand of quaking aspens nearly 20 miles to the north. Because I live in a rural area, 20 miles isn't really far to go with my camera. When it's colder, and the leaves are gone, I'll visit them all again.

Aspens in Winter
For several years, I have photographed a small grove of quaking aspens 15 miles north of where I live. The location is called "Palmer Junction" and the homes are spaced fairly distant from each other. The aspens are on the land of a family I've known for years. Last summer, I made a series of panoramic photos of the trees, cropped about one-half of the way up from the ground. They made striking images. This week, I drove out to photograph the trees in snow. Without leaves, the myriad tree branches create a busy image. That required some changes in my plans.

P52 Sweet Shot Tuesday #38
I love aspens...there are different varieties, but I especially love the ones with white bark. In the past several years, I have taken many photos of one small stand of aspens about 15 miles out in the country. I try to visit them each season to record the latest look. Now they are just beginning to turn color and were especially beautiful when the sun was low in the sky. I'm adding another image to Kent Weakley's P52 Sweet Shot Tuesday for Week 38, continuing to build the photo book I'll have printed in January.

Weekend in Black and White -- Aspens
I was out of town on Friday, but luckily remembered the Black and White meme today...just in time. Joining The Weekend in Black and White with an image of my favorite trees....quaking aspens.

Love for Aspen Trees
My favorite tree is the Quaking Aspen with its beautiful white bark and fluttering leaves. I'm sure there are different varieties of the tree---when I was a child, my sisters and I shared a bedroom on the second floor. Outside our window was a small grove of quaking aspens, which made the most wonderful sound in a breeze. As fall nears, our area is still hot and dry. The trees aren't changing yet, and sometimes they don't make it before winter arrives. These beautiful aspens grow in a park next to a river that doesn't hold much water right now. I'm joining with Mona's Floral Love/Green Goodbye.
