Personal Time

Lisa muses on the subject of "personal 'me' time" on The Creative Exchange post today.  I, too, love the time when it's just me and my camera. I hadn't thought much about how being with others when I have my camera just isn't the same.  But I experienced it this past weekend when my husband and I drove across Oregon to Portland; we were with our son and his fiancee' in the wonderful Sellwood neighborhood of fabulous little shops, diners and beautiful flowers.  Later, we visited two antique malls looking for a white pitcher that I wanted for a photo prop.    I now know that I would have lingered much longer and I would have used my camera if I had been alone.  However, I also happened to be on crutches to nurse the stress fracture in my hip, so my husband was carrying my purse.  Purse...camera...crutches----just don't mix well.   I felt rushed when I was photographing an amazing display of potted heliotrope in front of one antique shop, and rushed when we walked down a residential street lined with roses after our breakfast at a tiny little diner with outdoor tables. The roses are fabulous right now; after all, it was Rose Festival weekend, too.

These roses were right across the street from our son's duplex; to me, they epitomize the beauty of the rose in Portland.  ( SOOC with a mirrored frame from Picnik.  I almost always crop in my camera.)

when hubby's driving, i definitely don't ask him to pull over or turn around so i can photograph something that's interesting to me. yet when i'm behind the wheel i feel like i can. i think being with others we feel that 'push' to move along or feel guilty in taking up their time for our pursuits. :)

that rose is just beautiful...

Oh Evelyn, I am so sorry to hear about your hip, and even more so if I missed it here in a previous post. I sure hope that you are all better soon.

Your photograph here is absolutely gorgeous, and I love the way you've framed it.

Thank you so much for sharing it today at The Creative Exchange, and you take care of you dear friend.

The roses are beautiful! They are perfect, without spot or blemish - petals to leaves.

Hope you have a speedy recovery from your hip fracture!

So many fantastic photo opps in Portland. I know what you mean about feeling rushed when others are around. It's just not the same.

Hope your stress fracture heals soon. What a bummer!

I know what you mean by being rushed... when I do w/ my aunts, they stop for me, but I'd linger if I wasn't w/ anyone. My daughter is the best out of everyone, she rarely ever rushes me. =)

The roses are so bright & sunshiny happy!!! =)
