REDISCOVERING MYSELF THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY

Tuesday, January 31, 2012

A month gone already?

I enjoy my retirement, but I realize I've been retired for almost 10 years!  I can't think of anything significant that I've accomplished during that decade ("decade"?  It sounds so long!), but I'll use the excuse that my husband is still working.  What I love is the opportunity to make crafting messes and leave them if I feel like it....and I can hop in the car and take a little drive in the country looking for subjects to photograph and then spend hours on the computer playing with the images.   This image is from my recent follow-up appointment for my new hip and the "all clear" for a year.  It's a 60-mile drive through farm and ranch lands bordered by the Elkhorn Mountains to the west and the Eagle Caps of the Wallowas to the east.   On the trip back, the sun was lower in the west and there was a beautiful golden glow to the winter scene.  Those snow-covered Wallowa Mountains are majestic any time of year.  As a retiree, I realize that I can take this drive anytime I like.

What a gorgeous place you can drive through from you. That's such a beautiful scene with the mountains and the golden glow.

How wonderful to be retired and enjoy so many things and for a whole decade already!

I need to wait until next year before I can think of becoming a retiree!

Love your banner!!! As well as the photo. I do like being retired as well ... seems an odd word to use cause I don't feel 'retired' but pursuing other interests I put aside during my career.

This is amazing! And I loved your comments about retirement. I just retired after teacher school for years! I wake up every morning feeling like it is the first day of summer! It is wonderful.

Oh Evelyn, I wholeheartedly disagree with you!

I have only "known" you for about a year, and I think you have done so many significant things. Just look at your photography, and your wonderful work at Beyond Just Black and White! I think all of this is VERY significant (and so beautiful too!).

I am so looking forward to the day when I can wake up and say, "Okay, today it's just me and my camera, and a long ride to wherever!"
