Fencing on Friday

It's been a few weeks since I've "fenced" on Friday.   My choice today is a cemetery fence; I don't know how old it is, but there certainly aren't any other fences around here like this one.  It's next to the oldest part of the local --and rural-- cemetery.

A Fancy Fence for Friday

This is really a gate, rather than a fence, but I assure you that there is a fence attached---all the way around this jewel of a property.  The gate, which seems to be painted metal, was shining in the February sun yesterday.   The property is owned by someone who lives elsewhere during the winter, but he has his little piece of the Wallowa Mountains wilderness carved out and fenced off.   It's my choice for Friday's Fences.

Friday's Fence

My choices for Friday's Fences are typical of my geographical location:  many are barbed wire or woven wire, steel posts, or old worn wooden posts.   This week, I'm not straying from what I know!

A Simple Border

For this week's Friday's Fences, I've taken a photograph of the simple fence that separates our local (rural) cemetery from the adjoining farmland.  It's a simple fence that serves a simple purpose.

It's time for Fridays Fences again, and I have one that causes me to wonder:  could this barrier prevent any animal from crossing, or is it just a mark of a property line.   (I think pygmy goats could jump this one!)   However, there's just something about the character of an old split-rail fence.

Another Snowy Fence

It's another Fridays Fences, and I'm sharing another fence with snow on it.  Our snow came like gangbusters and piled up high, only to disappear within a few days because of heavy rain.   However, I already had this neat fence image....it borders the back property of the little local motel: Stampede Inn.

Where did the week go?

It's Friday again?  That means it's time for the delightful Friday's Fences once more. Janis finds much prettier fences than I've ever seen around here!  I recorded two snowy fences this past week on my walk after the first snowstorm.  It was calm and quiet, unlike the next storm that blew in with high winds, heavy snow, followed by heavy rain.  

Stretching the definition of "fence"

It's Friday's Fences again, and I've chosen a structure that isn't really a fence.  It's much prettier than the wire fence bordering the lane to this ranch, however.

A Fence on the Prairie

"Prairie" isn't a word  we commonly use in NE Oregon, but there's an amazing one near the Idaho border called Zumwalt Prairie.  I got close to it earlier this week on a drive  and found this fence...quite a common sight in this country. I'm linking up with Friday's Fences today.   (This is looking somewhat north....the photo below is the view to the east....The Seven Devils on the east side of Hells Canyon and the Snake River, which separates Oregon and Idaho.)

A Foggy Fence Scene for Friday

Friday's Fences provides a look at the most interesting fences and gates!   What a beautiful rustic scene Janis has in the current post!      My own fence and gate sit above a canyon...maybe a "draw" is more appropriate, but it's relatively deep in farm land near Weston, Oregon.  I noticed that the fog created a mirage-like shimmer in the photos.

On Sunday...a Fence for Friday

I've missed out on Friday's Fences recently, but I just had to share this beautiful fence I photographed recently in Walla Walla, Washington during a cold, foggy temperature inversion when everything was covered in beautiful icy lace.     Old cities have some beautiful old properties, and this one is no exception.  (I think it's a business now.)

Back to Friday's Fences this week --- This fence surrounds a well-preserved house now serving as a law office. The building is on an elevated corner lot in La Grande, Oregon.

This fence helps border a field that produces hay in the summer and pasture for cattle the rest of the time, for deer and elk at any time. It's my choice for Fridays Fences, where today a wooden fence is in a perilous situation over water.

Fencing Friday again.....

I'm surrounded by fences, but most of them aren't terribly attractive.  We got our first snow last night, so I took a little country road drive to find an interesting fence for Fridays Fences.

Fences in Historic Oregon City

Fences....all shapes and sizes, serve a variety of purposes, and the whole range can be found on Friday's Fences. I pulled out a photo I took in August in Oregon City, Oregon, a city established in 1829 that served as capital of the Oregon Territory from 1848-1851.   Several historic neighborhoods have been preserved.   I'm envious of this beautifully fenced corner lot!
