Grizzled?

Definition…adj: streaked or mixed with grey
Maegan's "The Sunday Creative" features 'grizzled' as the weekly theme.  Before I read the definition, I always thought 'grizzled'  meant 'old and worn.'    But 'streaked with grey'?    There's a familiar grizzled chin in my household.....it's my favorite grizzled chin.

A Brand New Year.....2011

My Sunday Snapshot has no people in it; I suppose I could have set up a tripod and included myself but it was very cold when I pulled off beside a mountain highway just 3 miles from my home to take some winter photos.

It's a brand-new year and there's a special 'newness' about snow.   I like this photo for two reasons:  heavy snow on evergreens  is almost always impressive, and capturing the sun flare through the branches is a bonus.  I've added some cross process with Picnik.

"Thaw" --- The Sunday Creative

Definition…verb; 1. To melt or cause to melt 2.To become so warm as to melt ice or snow 3. To abandon aloofness or hostility.

I'm linking up with Maegan's The Sunday Creative challenge on her beautiful blog:
"Life Set to Words"

I wanted to try to illustrate the third definition, but I'm surrounded by the first one!  Two major snowstorms, cold temperatures, and then two days of heavy rain.  So 'thaw' is all around me!  It's thawing on the pavement around my husband's car, too.  He's happy with that!

"Frozen" is definitely in my vocabulary this week!

"Sunday Creative" is back on Maegan's blog, and "Frozen" is the theme this week.  We got snow before Thanksgiving and below-zero temperatures; last week, we had blizzard conditions for several hours and our little town is piled with chunks of frozen snow.   The frozen footprint was beside my car when we left for church this morning, and I just happened to have my little pocket camera.   ;-)

My Sunday Creative is Obsolete

Justine Gordon (she of the lovely biscotti photograph on her blog!) is handling Sunday Creative for a while, filling in for Maegan.   When I saw today's theme, I scratched my head for a minute...thought it might be appropriate to add a photo of myself ...and then remembered that old washboard out in the shed.  Remember Montgomery Ward?  That big fat catalog and the catalog stores.  People ordered almost anything and everything, including this early 'washing machine'!

Today's Sunday Creative prompt is
Obsolete
1. no longer in general use, fallen into disuse.
2. effaced by wearing down or away.
3. to make obsolete by replacing with something newer or better; antiquate.

"Nostalgia"

The Sunday Creative always provides a challenge!

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
This week’s prompt:
Nostalgia

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
*This was the alternate prompt for last week…I liked it too much not to use it! Can’t wait to see what you do with it!*
Nostalgia: n. a wistful yearning for something past or irrecoverable
I haven't taken any photos I would consider 'nostalgic' lately, but I have scans of photos from my mother's childhood....many of which  she views with great nostalgia.  See, she just turned 90 in August, only 2 weeks after her elder sister died.  The two younger sisters had died several years ago.   This photo, captured by their aunt (a wonderful photographer), is true nostalgia:  four young girls growing up on an isolated homestead.  "Major" was the  faithful old horse who pulled their buggy, even one day when they disobeyed their parents' rules and started for 'town,' a few miles away.    (My mother is the girl on the right.)

The Sunday Creative --- "de nada"

I had to think for awhile about this one; I don't have the most creative mind!  In fact, I watched part of a PBS episode of "Inspector Lewis"  and snoozed---before settling on a plan at 11:30 p.m.   The challenge is The Sunday Creative, a prompt each week:

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
This week’s prompt:
Nothing

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Nothing: 1. no thing {leaves to the imagination} 2. something that does not exist 3. zero

Anyone who writes will recognize this. It's nothing.  And sometimes, 'nothing' is the result of hours of effort.

Monday version of Sunday Creative

I'm adjusting to the days of the new blog photo challenges I'm loving!  So, on Monday, I'm entering the "Sunday Creative" inspiration/challenge.

This week’s prompt:
Abundance

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Abundance: from the word Abundant meaning more than enough: amply sufficient

Here's 'abundance'.....'volunteer' dill bordering the basketball court in my sister and brother-in-law's backyard.

COMFORT

The Sunday Creative features "Comfort" as the inspiration word this week.
Comfort vb 1.To give strength and hope

n 1. Consolation 2. Freedom from pain, trouble, or anxiety; also: something that gives such freedom
Words as inspiration often cause me real trouble; my mind just doesn't seem to work in metaphor, I guess. "Comfort"  means different things depending on the time of year.  During the summer, a great example of 'comfort' for me is sitting on the back steps in the sunshine.    As cooler seasons move in, it's still something warm that comforts me. A crocheted afghan on a microfiber couch is definitely comfy!

"The Sunday Creative"

Madeline Bea Photography....aka Maegan Beishline...(or vice versa)....has a wonderful challenge---or inspiration, actually---on her blog each week.  It's called "The Sunday Creative," and is a prompt for a creative challenge.  This week--my first time to participate--the prompt is "Timeworn."   I've chosen a photograph of an old red pickup that sits near an elk farm in the Blue Mountains of NE Oregon.
